Happy 40th, Seattle Pilots!

It was 40 years ago today, April 8, 1969, that the Seattle Pilots made their Major League Baseball debut in Anaheim. They beat the Angels, 4-3, but finished their one and only season with a 64-98 record, before moving to Milwaukee and becoming the Brewers.

Here's my oft-reprinted article summarizing the Pilots' brief, disastrous history, and Mike Fuller's much more comprehensive site. Also, here's the M's in Pilots gear in '06.

Go, Go You Pilots!

Steve,

Didn't Gorman Thomas also play for both the Pilots and the Mariners?

Lessee... According to Wikipedia, "Thomas was the first player ever picked by the Seattle Pilots in the June 1969 draft." I did not know that! He didn't play in the bigs though 'til after the Pilots moved to Milwaukee. Then he played for the M's in the '80s.

Ah, my mistake. I remember when Gormbo played for the M's. He had a reputation for hitting lots of dingers . . . and nothing else. Pretty bad hitter, all around.
